I thought it would be helpful for people to understand what goes into refinishing the furniture. So this is my process from beginning to end.

First I spend hours and hours searching for interesting pieces for sale. I finally spot one, I give my husband a sweet smile and he knows what's coming. We jump in the truck and drive to whatever town the furniture currently resides. I thank and pay the seller, and my husband and I hump the piece into the back of the truck, strap it in, head home, hump it back out of the truck to its new temporary home.

Again I spend hours coming up with a design idea for the piece. What colour? Simple? Floral? Dark? Light? Pattern? Blended? Once I've decided, this is my process.

First the piece is thoroughly cleaned with a commercial cleaner, if the piece has detailed areas, a soft wire brush is used. The cleaner is then rinsed off with water.

As an extra measure, I like to wipe the piece down, inside and out with alcohol. I then use a fine grit sand paper to scuff sand the body. On this piece the top and drawers are stripped down to the bare wood to reveal the beautiful wood grain.

The piece is vacuumed with a brush to remove any dust, and then wiped with a tack cloth.

The drawers and doors have been removed. Any areas where I don't want paint are taped off.

The piece is primed. 2-3 coat of the main colour are added with dry time between each coat. 2-3 coats of top coat are added, lightly sanded in between each coat.

The same applies with the top and the drawers fronts but with stain instead of paint.
